Lorenzo Bizzarri

The Corale Quadriclavio is directed since 1998 by Maestro Lorenzo Bizzarri.

Lorenzo Bizzarri obtained diplomas in orchestral conducting (2007, Conservatory of Parma), choral music and choir conducting (2003, Conservatory of Ferrara), opera conducting (2001, R. Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna) and piano (1996, Conservatory of Bologna).

He has a specialization in opera singing with Paolo Barbacini as a baritone. He has followed Masterclasses with Josè Cura, Eliahu Inbal, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, Ottavio Dantone, Antonello Allemandi, Marco Guidarini, Klaus Peter Floor and Neil Thompson.

He is currently musical director of the opera festival of Colorno (PR), for which he has directed Gianni Schicchi, Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, Boheme, Elisir d'amore, Turandot, Pagliacci, Trovatore, Cavalleria Rusticana, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Madama Butterfly, The Barber of Seville and Traviata. He is musical director of the Varignana Music Festival and guest conductor of the Varna State Opera (Bulgaria) and of the Taranto Opera Festival.

He has conducted over twenty operas in Italy and abroad, and conducted in important theatres in Italy (Regio di Parma, Verdi di Pisa, C. Abbado di Ferrara, Carlo Felice di Genova, Duse and Manzoni of Bologna, Bonci of Cesena, Orfeo of Taranto) and abroad (State Opera of Varna in Bulgaria, Krasnoyarnsk Opera Theater in Russia, Opera Theater of Craiova in Romania, Ohrid Summer Arena in Macedonia, Fujian Gran Theater in Fuzhou in China).

On 24 April 2024 he conducted the national premiere of Paul McCartney's Oratorio Ecce Cor Meum at the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara.

On 9 December 2017 he opened the Rossini celebrations in Bologna with the performance of the Mass for Rossini by Verdi and various authors in the Basilica of San Petronio, according to the original project of Verdi himself, also conducting, on 28 May 2018, the very little performed Rossini's Messa di Gloria in the Basilica of S. Maria dei Servi in ​​Bologna.

He has collaborated with Andrea Bocelli as choirmaster in the Cavalleria Rusticana under the direction of Placido Domingo, in the 2014 Celebrity Fight Night with Zubin Metha and on the occasion of the concert for the Bambin Gesù pediatric hospital, held in the Paul VI Hall in the Vatican in 2013 and since 2017 he has conducted concerts on several occasions with the flautist Andrea Griminelli.

From 2011 to 2013 he was Choir Master at the Fondazione Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, a position which allowed him to collaborate with artists such as Michele Pertusi, Giovanni Meoni, Eva Mei, Luca Canonici, Bruno Praticò.

In addition to the Quadriclavio Choir, since 2002 he is Director of the choir and orchestra of the Cappella Musicale Arcivescovile Santa Maria dei Servi in ​​Bologna.

With these groups he has performed most of the major works for choir and orchestra: Handel's Messiah; Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Petite Messe Solennelle and Messa di Gloria; Verdi’s Requiem; Fauré’s Requiem; Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mass op. 80; Mozart's Requiem, Coronation Mass, Missa Brevis in F major, Missa Brevis in G major. Vesperae solennes de confessore, Litanie Lauretane, Litanie de Venerabili Altaris Sacramento, Regina Coeli (all) and Te Deum; Haydn's Stabat Mater, Nelsonmesse, Te Deum and Salve Regina; Missa Sancti Jeronimi; Bach's B Minor Mass, Magnificat; Vivaldi’s Gloria, Magnificat, Beatus vir, Lauda Jerusalem and Laudate Pueri; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.

Since September 2024 he teaches choir conducting and choral composition at the “F. Ghedini" Conservatory of Cuneo.
